Ginger
Ginger is one of the most used spices in India. In the year 2013-14 India was the leading producer of Ginger in the world. India produced around 7.45 lakh tons of Ginger in that year. The ginger crop is cultivated in most states of India.
Ginger grows very well in warm & humid conditions and is cultivated at an altitude of 1500 m above sea level. It is grown in both showers of rain-fed & irrigated conditions. For good cultivation of the Ginger crop a moderate rainfall at the time of sowing till the sprouts come out, a heavy and well-moderated shower at the time of growing & dry conditions at the time of harvesting is required.
The best time for planting the Ginger crop is May where pre-monsoon showers take place on the west coasts of India. If the irrigation process is done properly the crop can be planted in mid-February or early March. This will help in higher yield & protect the crops from getting infected.
