ONION
Onion is one of the most important crops grown in our country. India is the second-largest onion-growing country in the world. In India onion is grown in two crops cycle the first harvesting of the crop starts between November to January and the second harvesting is done from January to May.
The onion-producing states in India are Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu & Jharkhand.
Onion can be grown under a different range of climatic conditions such as temperate, tropical & sub-tropical conditions. The crop requires around 70% humidity for good growth with annual rainfall between 650-750 mm. Onion grows well on friable loam & alluvial soil with a good drainage & moisture holding capacity which is rich in organic matters.
